Self Portrait Challenge - patterns one.

This photo is taken on one of our grandest adventures of the Summer thus far. Bodie State Historic Park is out on the Eastern side of the Sierras and somewhere outside of time.
I love how the patterns in this old decaying wallpaper have imprinted through to the wall, how we could be the ghosts in the mirror.

"A genuine California gold-mining ghost town. Visitors can walk down the deserted streets of a town that once had a population of 10,000 people."
bodie (11)

"Only a small part of the town survives."
bodie (16)

"Interiors remain as they were left and stocked with goods."
bodie (5)

"The remains of Bodie are being preserved in a state of "arrested decay". Today this once thriving mining camp is visited by tourists, howling winds and an occasional ghost."
bodie (12)

This place is truly amazing, beautiful and even a touch eerie. Thank goodness there are no silly staged gunfights, or be-costumed people roaming the streets. Honestly several of the most satisfying hours I have spent as a 'tourist' in my life.

The whole photo set is here.

And everyone else's SPC patterns can be found here.

I just got back from a ghost town myself- Belmont, NV- similar feel, similar effect.

lovely, lovely and very evocative self portrait. i would have flipped out, had i been given the chance to find myself in the middle of a ghost town with all those photo ops!!! i remember once taking a left turn off the highway on a cross country road trip, somewhere in nevada, trying to follow a road sign and arrow that pointed to "ghost town". that was one long, bumpy, dusty gravel road that led to nowhere, and we never did find the town. maybe it truly was one of ghosts.

I'm sorry, I just can't help picture a young Clint Eastwood. And GOD he's so damned hot. I swore I'd name my next grey gelding Paleface.

I've bookmared this place for a future jaunt.

Sooo eery, strikingly beautiful, stark.

found your blog via posey and i was scrolling though posts. bodie, we took our trip there a few years ago and my husband shot that table and chairs in black and white. odd, how small the world can be. i love the post on your son and your day with him. i have small twins and it is hard to believe one day they will be so grown up like him.

my dad's side of the family has a cabin near bodie that we rarely go to (why? is a good question...) but one time when we stayed at the cabin we went to bodie..it really is amazing...i was like 12 or something & i still remember how it felt to walk through the houses & peak in windows...thanks for the little memory...if we ever go to the cabin again i will for sure go revisit bodie...
