But instead I went to Arcata and Trinidad and Eureka, California to celebrate my admirable friend Mary's graduation from Humboldt State (HOORAY GIRL!!!) and took photos.

And felt a million miles away.

We stood outside the doorway of the hot, sweaty sardine-like affair called Village Music yesterday. Beth and I were on tippytoes on the sidewalk of the little town in which we live. He was here to say goodbye to his "favorite record store" as the legendary store will close later this year. We heard him sing with that distinctive, goose-bump-inducing voice.

He opened with the song 'One's Too Many and a Hundred Ain't Enough' and closed with 'So Long It's Been Good To Know You'. And it could not have been better.
