photo booth friday is the best.

Welcome, welcome Photobooth Friday enthusiasts! I am honored to be 'Guest Hostess' to the illustrious and crazy-busybusy Andrea of hulaseventy this week. First order of the day: the photo I chose...

This young man above, my lit up boy, only eleven years old, started 7th grade last week. One of his first assignments was to write a poem titled "I Am" and, humbly, I present it to you here (with his permission).

I Am
by Riley S****

I am a creative thinker who loves a beautiful voice,
I wonder why people let their lives become influenced by hatred,
I hear anything and everything,

I see my worries floating out of my pores while I dream,

I want somebody to love,
I am a creative thinker who loves a beautiful voice.

I pretend that everything I see is alive,
I feel the anxiety of others in my life,
I touch all of my favorite things with delicate care,
I worry that the world might collapse in on itself from the stresses of human existence,
I cry when I feel like my life is crumbling into a fine powder,
I am a creative thinker who loves a beautiful voice.

I understand that the disability of being under someone else's control creates great anger,
I say that popularity is a figment of the imagination,
I dream of making an impact on the world,
I try to fix other people's problems when they are not my responsibility,
I hope that perfection evaporates - leaving room for the safety of the earth,
I am a creative thinker who loves a beautiful voice.

This boy - who came not from me, but through me. I sometimes wonder about my role and, although I falter at times, feel deep inside that I must have done something honest and good to have deserved the honor of becoming mama to this lovely creature named Riley. All I can say is 'Watch out World' - here he comes.

7th grade? I am just floored by his way with words and his insight. He's a boy with his eyes wide open to everything around him and obviously a wonderful heart and mind.

Oh my. He is beautiful and thoughtful and a gift to this world. I'm always in awe of what kids feel in their hearts, if only the adults of the world took the time to listen, there would be a lot less pain. How very insightful that he KNOWS popularity is nothing and yet, I bet he's a very popular boy.
I think we are so very blessed in this world, to have our wee ones come thru us (or in my case, be pulled out of us) to show us the beauty that exists in life. Everyday I'm in awe that my wee one is as wise and thoughtful (and of course beautiful) and she keeps me honest and humble and grateful.
Thank you for hosting us PB devotees while lovely Hula70 moves.

Wow ... Riley's poem made me cry. I am amazed by his wisdom and insight ... and how compassionate and in touch with his emotions Riley is. Perhaps the most attractive quality of someone to me is securely knowing oneself and being confident and true enough to share it with others. His descriptive writing is wonderfully tactile and beautiful!

wow, what a beautiful poem. Thanks for sharing. He'd probably agree with my idea that everyone should listen to Bob Marley's "One Love" every morning and the world would be a little more friendly :)

Thank you all so much. I am very proud and a little biased too :)

But just for the sake of honesty he is a normal every day pre-teen pain in the butt sometimes, too. Boy, do I love him.

LS, you've made the best contribution to our future in Riley, so brightly insightful. I'm just melted by your relationship with him, clearly a two-way road: he gets much of his wisdom and creativity from you and surely you get pangs of pride from watching him sprout, supporting him and his interests as they evolve. Other kids his age seem so myopic in their perspective and shallow in their interests. All I can echo is Good job, mama!
